Satellite Symposia: The EU FMD for Hospital Pharmacies ─ Practical Introduction and Case Study
This presentation aims to introduce the practical aspects of the EU FMD and how it impacts hospital pharmacies. OPTEL will provide an overview of the legislation and how it relates to the supply chain, clarifying impacts, responsibilities, and important terminology such as verification, authentication, decommissioning, supplying, deactivating, reverting, dispensing, validating, and activating. The presentation will cover considerations such as the effective date of the legislation, financial aspects, and operations. Industry trends from across Europe and an EU FMD compliance step-by-step strategy will be presented. At the end of the panel, the results of a recent pilot project conducted within a renowned European hospital, covering initial objectives, required connectivity, availability of medications serialised with 2D barcodes, selected decommissioning location, training and lessons learned will be presented.
